Win one of two first aid course entries

A motorcycle-friendly cafe owner in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley wine district is backing the First Aid for Motorcyclists course with a free venue, two free courses for riders and even free camping on their property.

Owner Judy Searley is also a registered nurse and believes the specialised course which is touring Australia should be a compulsory part of rider training.

“I think that if the rider understands themselves what any helpers can do, and they are in a fit state to be able to guide their own ‘assisters’ as to what to do and not to do, if they have an ‘off’ themselves, then this would be invaluable,” she says.

She has booked the course into the Auburn Institute next to her Cogwebs Cafe at 30 Main North Rd, Auburn, on March 5, 2016.

Free camping will be provided at Judy’s property and riders can get directions from her at the cafe.

“I offer it free to motorcyclists, so I am happy to share with people who book the course at the time and are interested in camping here,” she says.

As well as covering the cost of the venue she will repay two rider course fees through a raffle ticket draw at the training day.

She has also invited interstate riders to visit the Clare Valley and attend the course.

The First Aid for Motorcyclists course was put together by highly qualified and experienced first aiders Tracy Hughes and partner Roger Fance who sold their house to take the course around the country.

Since their course started in July, they have added about 20 sessions which have been scheduled up until May 2016, including Western Australia.

“We intend to deliver about 35 sessions a year around Australia visiting every state and territory at least once and tour Queensland, NSW, ACT and Victoria twice a year,” Tracy says.

“The program will be running for the next three years and we expect to do at least three laps of Australia in that time.”
