Indian Motorcycle has unveiled the new 2026 Chief Vintage, continuing its year-long 125th anniversary celebration by reimagining one of the most iconic motorcycles in American history. Drawing direct inspiration from the legendary 1940s Chief, the new model blends classic design elements with modern performance, technology, and craftsmanship.
The 2026 Chief Vintage pays homage to the golden age of American motorcycling with flowing valanced fenders, a distinctive silhouette, and authentic styling details that reflect Indian Motorcycle’s heritage. While its appearance looks firmly rooted in history, the motorcycle is powered by the modern Thunderstroke engine, delivering the strength and presence expected from today’s American V-twin cruiser. Built with close attention to detail and American craftsmanship, the Chief Vintage reflects Indian Motorcycle’s long-standing commitment to innovation and rider choice.
More than a styling exercise, the Chief Vintage combines timeless design with the power, precision, and engineering that have defined the brand for 125 years. It represents a continuation of Indian Motorcycle’s legacy rather than a nostalgic look backward.
“The Indian Chief from the 1940s remains one of the most recognisable and celebrated motorcycles in American history,” said Ola Stenegärd, Design Director for Indian Motorcycle. “With its iconic V-Twin engine, valanced fenders, and unparalleled reliability, the Chief set a standard for performance and design that resonates today. It represents the spirit of Indian Motorcycle – bold, timeless, and always pushing forward.”
Visually, the Chief Vintage captures the look and feel of post-war American motorcycles. Sculpted body lines, the signature valanced front fender, the illuminated headdress ornament, vintage-style handlebars, and wire-spoke wheels combine to create an unmistakable presence. A reimagined solo seat enhances comfort while maintaining an authentic vintage appearance. Engine finishes also reference early craftsmanship, with non-machined black cylinders and silver-painted heads and pushrod tubes inspired by original Chief models.
Beneath its classic styling, the 2026 Chief Vintage delivers modern performance and technology. Power comes from Indian Motorcycle’s air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 V-twin engine, producing 156 Nm of torque for strong, effortless acceleration. Riders can choose from three ride modes—Tour, Standard, and Sport—to tailor throttle response to their riding style.
Technology is centered around Indian Motorcycle’s 101 mm round touchscreen display powered by RIDE COMMAND. Updated software improves system responsiveness and introduces App Enhanced Navigation, allowing riders to send routes directly from smartphone navigation apps to the bike’s display. The system also supports Bluetooth connectivity, music control, call management, and turn-by-turn navigation through handlebar controls or the touchscreen interface.
A range of authentic accessories is available to complement the Chief Vintage, including quick-release windshields, highway bars, saddlebags, premium grips, and seating options for enhanced comfort and two-up riding. These accessories are designed to add practicality without compromising the motorcycle’s classic character.
With the 2026 Chief Vintage, Indian Motorcycle reinforces its message that heritage is not a destination, but a foundation for what comes next.
