The 2025 edition of the X Power Taklimakan Rally concluded on June 1 with a dramatic finish in the deserts of northwest China’s Xinjiang region. This year’s rally proved once again why it is known as “China’s Dakar”—a true test of endurance, skill, and machine.
A 13-Day Test of Endurance
Launched on May 20, the Taklimakan Rally spanned a punishing 13 days across the arid expanses of Aksu, Hetian, and Kashi prefectures. The event covered an astonishing 5,183 kilometers in total, with 2,200 kilometers of competitive timed stages threading through deserts, Gobi plains, and challenging river crossings.
Martin Michek Secures Motorcycle Victory
Czech rider Martin Michek emerged victorious in the motorcycle division, completing the race with an impressive total time of 28 hours, 31 minutes, and 4 seconds. This win marked Michek’s debut at the Taklimakan Rally, showcasing not only his resilience but also his ability to master China’s most treacherous rally terrain on first attempt.
“This race was extremely tough, but I really enjoyed competing in China,” Michek said after the finish line, highlighting both the intensity and the thrill of the race.
International Participation & Innovation
The 2025 rally drew 233 racers from 12 countries, with 23 motorcycles and 105 vehicles competing. Adding to the innovation, this year’s rally also saw the debut of a New Energy Vehicle (NEV) category, pointing to the future of sustainable motorsport.
More Than a Race
The rally culminated in a dazzling closing ceremony complete with a drone light show and fireworks, celebrating not just the winners but every participant who braved the harsh landscapes. With its growing international presence and evolving format, the Taklimakan Rally continues to cement its status as Asia’s premier off-road racing event.
