Hamamatsu, Japan — Suzuki Motor Corporation is commemorating the 40th anniversary of its legendary GSX-R series, a cornerstone of modern supersport motorcycles, first introduced in 1985. To mark this major milestone, the company has launched a dedicated GSX-R Series 40th Anniversary Special Website, unveiled today, July 25.
“The GSX-R series spirit that has been handed down over the past 40 years, interviews with past development members, information on upcoming events, and other contents will be posted on the special website,” Suzuki stated.

The GSX-R750, launched in 1985, revolutionized the supersport category with cutting-edge racing technology derived from prestigious competitions such as the World Endurance Championship. Weighing in at just 179kg and powered by Suzuki’s unique oil-cooled engine, the GSX-R750 delivered a maximum output of 77PS — setting new standards in power-to-weight performance.
Within its debut year, the GSX-R750 achieved a major milestone, clinching victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Endurance Race — solidifying its place as a race-ready machine with durability and agility.
Over the past four decades, the GSX-R line has grown to include models such as the GSX-R600, GSX-R1000, GSX-R1100, and lightweight variants like the GSX-R150 and GSX-R125. As of June 2025, cumulative global production has surpassed 1.2 million units — a testament to the series’ enduring popularity and race-winning DNA.
