A 40-Year Legacy of Performance and Innovation
The GSX-R750, launched in 1985, revolutionized the supersport category with cutting-edge racing technology derived from prestigious competitions such as the World Endurance Championship. Weighing in at just 179kg and powered by Suzuki’s unique oil-cooled engine, the GSX-R750 delivered a maximum output of 77PS — setting new standards in power-to-weight performance.
Within its debut year, the GSX-R750 achieved a major milestone, clinching victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Endurance Race — solidifying its place as a race-ready machine with durability and agility.
Over the past four decades, the GSX-R line has grown to include models such as the GSX-R600, GSX-R1000, GSX-R1100, and lightweight variants like the GSX-R150 and GSX-R125. As of June 2025, cumulative global production has surpassed 1.2 million units — a testament to the series’ enduring popularity and race-winning DNA.
Technology Rooted in Racing
Since its inception, the GSX-R series has embodied Suzuki’s “Own the Racetrack” philosophy. The brand’s pursuit of high-performance and lightweight engineering is deeply influenced by real-world racing feedback.
The first GSX-R750’s oil-cooled engine was a groundbreaking solution that balanced cooling efficiency with minimal weight, a principle that continues to guide Suzuki’s design philosophy today. The chassis design and suspension geometry, inspired by endurance racing, ensured sharp handling and reliability under pressure.
Pushing Forward: Sustainability and Performance
In 2024, Suzuki took another step forward by introducing the “Team SUZUKI CN Challenge”, fielding a GSX-R1000-based machine at the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race. This team aims not only to compete but to champion sustainability in motorsports. By incorporating environmentally friendly components and materials, Suzuki is using motorsport as a testing ground for green technology.
“We will accelerate the development of environmental performance technologies by using sustainable items, and will work for technical feedback for future products,” Suzuki noted.
A Celebration for the Global Community
The 40th anniversary campaign will include exclusive interviews with past engineers and designers, highlights of historic GSX-R moments, and global community events. Motorcycle fans worldwide are encouraged to share their GSX-R stories and join the celebration through the official website and Suzuki’s social media channels.
Whether you’re a long-time GSX-R rider, a racing fan, or new to the brand, the celebration offers a unique glimpse into a model that changed the face of sportbikes.
