Suzuki Reaches Landmark of 2 Million Motorcycles Produced in Colombia

Milestone Celebration in Pereira

Suzuki Motor de Colombia S.A. (SMDC), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has officially reached a major production milestone, achieving 2 million motorcycles manufactured in Colombia as of September 11, 2025.

The celebration took place at the Suzuki plant in Pereira, Risaralda, and brought together company executives, government officials, dealers, and suppliers. The event was attended by Takasugi Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Colombia; Juan Jose Orozco, President of SMDC; and Takashi Ise, Managing Officer and Executive General Manager of Motorcycle Operations at Suzuki. Around 220 participants joined the ceremony to mark this achievement.

Four Decades of Motorcycle Production

SMDC began its motorcycle production journey in February 1982 and now manufactures 14 different models, including the popular GN125 and GIXXER series. Over the course of 43 years, the company reached the 2 million mark, with the Colombian-spec GN125 playing a key role thanks to its reputation for durability and fuel efficiency.

In addition to serving local riders, SMDC has expanded into international markets. Today, the company exports motorcycles to six countries: Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, El Salvador, and Chile.

Record Sales and Future Growth

In fiscal year 2024, SMDC set a new record with annual sales reaching 133,391 units, reflecting both domestic demand and growing export strength.

The company has long contributed to the development of Colombia’s industrial sector by producing motorcycles for more than four decades. Suzuki reaffirmed its commitment to continue delivering innovative, reliable, and accessible products that enhance mobility and improve daily life in Colombia, a market projected to experience sustained growth in the coming years.
