Saturday’s Italian Grand Prix action at the scenic Autodromo del Mugello saw Maverick Viñales deliver his most competitive performance of the season so far. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider charged to 4th place in the MotoGP™ Sprint, finishing just over three seconds shy of the podium, following a solid weekend of pace and progression.

Friday set the tone, with Viñales nearly breaking the lap record during Practice and topping both Free Practice sessions. He then secured 5th on the grid after an intense Q2 battle, placing himself in a prime second-row starting position.

“Maverick Viñales charges to 4th place and his strongest Sprint result of 2025 after nearing the lap record on Friday and topping Practice and Free Practice 2.”

Saturday’s 11-lap Sprint at the 5.2km Mugello circuit was marked by drama early on. Brad Binder crashed out after contact in Turn 1, and Pedro Acosta followed with a fall at the final corner. Viñales, however, maintained consistent pace and fought hard for third, ultimately crossing the line in P4 — a season-best result for both rider and team.

Elsewhere, Enea Bastianini pushed into the points-scoring zone before finishing 11th, while Acosta and Binder registered DNFs.

The KTM GP Academy also made headlines as Alvaro Carpe claimed Pole Position in Moto3™, and Deniz Öncü secured a second-row start in Moto2™.

“Picturesque and pacey: Mugello brought a typical Italian flavor to MotoGP for the sweeping and curvy 5.2km circuit’s 39th hosting of a Grand Prix.”

Sunday’s full-length Grand Prix will begin at 14:00 CEST, with riders gearing up for a 23-lap showdown in the heart of Tuscany.
